Get Adjusted! When your Atlas and Axis vertebrae (top two in your spine) are adjusted by a chiropractor, it directly stimulates your brain stem, which runs your immune system. Snow shoveling has inherent risks that need to be respected. One, if it’s snowing, it’s cold and slippery outside. Two, it rapidly accelerates your heart rate, and three, it puts a strain on your spine, especially your lower back.             Here are some tips for making it a safe winter by managing the snow on your home’s driveway and sidewalks. If the snow is deeper and you are physically fit to use a snow shovel, start by lifting with your legs. Be sure to switch hands to even out the pressure on your back. Never underestimate how your heart rate will rise when shoveling, so go slow and take breaks. If you have any physical limitations, hire someone to shovel for you.  If the snow is light, you can use a leaf blower, broom, or ergonomically correct snow shovel to push the snow aside. Plantar Fasciitis typically causes a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel and is caused by inflammation or tears to the long, flat ligament along the bottom of the foot, called the plantar fascia, and also in the Achilles tendon just above the heel.           T here are certain risk factors associated with this condition, most likely occurring for individuals between the ages of 40-60. It’s an important joint formed by your skull and your jaw bone and involves the muscles needed for chewing.    Your TMJ acts like a sliding hinge and connects your jawbone to your skull.        Stretching before a sport will help promote proper circulation, improve coordination and flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and prevent muscle strain. Without proper stretching, tissues may shorten over time and become fatigued, creating an opportunity for injury.        Dr. Nathan Blackwell has been playing baseball since he was five years old and has been weightlifting since he was 16 years old.
